چکیده

Abstract Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), an endocrine disorder that affects 10% of women worldwide. In 1990, the NIH established first consensus on diagnostic criteria for PCOS which included chronic anovulation with clinical and/or biochemical hyperandrogenism, after exclusion related disorders. Traditionally assessment hyperandrogenism serum studies total testosterone (TT), free (FT), and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S), physical exam assessing hirsutism using modified Ferriman-Gallwey (mFG) score. The most recent 2018 International Guidelines suggest measurement DHEA-S can be considered if TT or FT are not elevated, but probably provide limited value. We evaluated utility TT, FT, in a large prospective cohort women. Subjects presented to tertiary-care specialty clinics symptoms androgen excess Birmingham, Alabama Los Angeles, California from 1987-2010. Clinical was assessed mFG score, defined as >4. Participants underwent assess hyperandrogenemia exclude other causes hyperandrogenism. Fasting blood samples were obtained cycle days 3 through 8 spontaneous progesterone-induced vaginal bleed DHEA-S. Elevated androgens values exceeding laboratory reference range greater than 95th percentile reported values. have oligomenorrhea they >35 day cycles, <10 bleeds per year being eumenorrheic confirmed non-ovulatory luteal phase progesterone <4 ng/mL. One thousand six hundred ten adolescents (n=1610), aged > 14 years, diagnosed by Criteria included. Of these 1610 subjects, 39.3% (n=643) based upon elevated oligomenorrhea; 23.9% (n=384) normal 11.3% (n=182) 1.1% (n=17) DHEA-S; androgens, oligomenorrhea, (mFG>4). Results diagnosis is rarely made setting FT. Most had values, still significant proportion (23.9%) context androgens. Thus, hirsutism, both timely inexpensive, strong predictor valuable tool diagnosing PCOS, reserving DHEAS when better measures diagnostic. Presentation: Monday, June 13, 2022 12:30 p.m. - 2:30

Correlation of biochemical markers and clinical signs of hyperandrogenism in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and women with non-classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia (NCAH)

BACKGROUND Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common cause of hyperandrogenism in women. Non-classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia (NCAH) is very close to PCOS. The diagnosis of hyperandrogenism is not based on the finding of decreased or increased levels of a single hormone. OBJECTIVE In our paper, we are going to test correlation between clinical signs and biochemical markers of ...

Adrenal hyperandrogenism does not deteriorate insulin resistance and lipid profile in women with PCOS

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of adrenal hyperandrogenism on insulin resistance and lipid profile in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PATIENTS AND METHODS We studied 372 women with PCOS according to the NIH criteria. 232 age- and BMI-matched women served as controls in order to define adrenal hyperandrogenism (DHEA-S >95th percentile). Then, patient...
